Washington, United States – Global energy markets witnessed a significant decline on Tuesday, with global oil prices falling below $80 a barrel, following recent statements by US President Donald Trump regarding entering into “in-depth negotiations” with the Iranian side, coinciding with the continued relative calm in southern Iran and the absence of US night raids.
Details of the decline in global crude oil prices
In Tuesday morning trading, West Texas Intermediate crude fell to $79.98 a barrel, a drop of more than 2% compared to the previous day’s prices. Similarly, Brent crude from the North Sea declined significantly by 3.7% to $85 a barrel. It’s worth noting that Brent crude prices had previously surged to nearly $100 a barrel amidst the latest round of US military strikes targeting Iranian territory.
Impact of the field de-escalation on the markets
This decline in oil markets is a direct reflection of the temporary decrease in the intensity of field tensions. These developments came after the resumption of US attacks on Iran following the failure of the Islamabad memorandum understandings, which continued for 13 consecutive nights of intensive bombing. This escalation wave had pushed oil prices up by more than 20%, before the markets breathed a sigh of relief with the move towards de-escalation and the reopening of diplomatic and mediation channels.
