Washington, DC – The US Treasury Department announced a new round of sanctions against 10 individuals and companies it said were involved in providing direct support to the Iranian military and Tehran’s defense industry programs. This move is the latest in a series of escalating economic and political tensions between the United States and Iran.
In an official statement, the department confirmed that the sanctions target networks and companies that provide equipment, technology, and logistical services related to Iran’s military sector. It also noted that some of the sanctioned entities are accused of helping to transfer sensitive components used in weapons and military manufacturing programs.
Washington explained that the new measures are part of a policy aimed at limiting Iran’s military capabilities. They also seek to cut off the sources of financial and technological support upon which Iranian defense institutions rely, particularly given the escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Under the sanctions, any assets or property belonging to the targeted individuals and companies within the United States will be frozen. American citizens and companies are also prohibited from engaging in any financial or commercial transactions with them. Furthermore, restrictions have been imposed on their international activities.
The US Treasury Department stated that Iran continues to rely on complex international networks to acquire the equipment and technologies necessary to develop its military capabilities. It affirmed that Washington will continue to pursue any entities assisting Tehran in this regard.
For its part, the Iranian authorities did not immediately comment on the new sanctions. However, Tehran has repeatedly asserted in previous statements that the US sanctions constitute an “illegal pressure policy.” Tehran maintains that the sanctions will not affect its defense programs or its regional policies.
Observers believe that the US move is part of a broader escalation encompassing multiple issues between the two countries, including the Iranian nuclear program and security tensions in the Gulf. It also includes Western accusations regarding support for armed groups in the region.
Political assessments indicate that the new sanctions may further complicate the prospects for de-escalation between Washington and Tehran in the coming period. This is particularly evident given the continued regional tensions and the exchange of political and military messages between the two sides.
