Beijing, – China has announced its refusal to comply with US sanctions imposed on several companies involved in purchasing Iranian oil.
China asserted that these measures violate international law and constitute an unjustified restriction on commercial activities.
China rejects unilateral sanctions
China Ministry of Commerce stated that the US sanctions “should not be recognized or implemented.”
It also reiterated Beijing’s continued opposition to any unilateral actions not authorized by the United Nations,
deeming them a violation of the basic norms of international relations.
Targeted companies and refineries
The sanctions targeted several China companies, including independent refineries known
as “teapot refineries.” These refineries rely on purchasing Iranian oil
at discounted prices, particularly in Shandong province.
Other companies in Dalian and Hebei were also sanctioned.
Escalating tensions and stalled negotiations
This move comes as the United States seeks to reduce Iran’s oil revenues by tightening restrictions.
At the same time, talks between Washington and Tehran remain stalled.
There are also expectations of upcoming talks between the US president and his China counterpart.
