Tunisia – The future of Frenchman Sabri Lamouchi with the Tunisian national team has become highly doubtful, following the crushing defeat suffered by the “Eagles of Carthage” against Sweden with a score of 5-1, in the opening match of the team’s journey in the 2026 World Cup.
The Tunisian national team suffered a painful blow in the first round of Group F competitions, after failing to keep up with the Swedish national team, which dominated the match and emerged with a resounding victory that put it at the top of the group.
Tunisian radio station Mosaique FM reported that the Tunisian Football Federation intends to hold an urgent meeting in the coming hours to assess the national team’s technical situation, given the negative results the team has experienced recently.
The radio station added that Sabri Lamouchi is now threatened with losing his position, especially after the disappointing performance of the national team against Sweden, in addition to the unconvincing results that preceded the start of the World Cup.
The Tunisian national team entered the tournament amid many question marks, after suffering a heavy defeat during the preparation camp against Belgium by five goals to nil, which increased the intensity of the criticism directed at the technical staff.
Lamouchi took over the leadership of the Tunisian national team following the end of the tenure of national coach Sami Trabelsi, who left his post after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Tunisian national team finds itself facing a difficult task to revive its hopes of qualifying, as it prepares to face Japan in the second round, before concluding the group stage with a tough match against the Netherlands.
After the end of the first round, the Tunisian national team was at the bottom of Group F with no points, while the Swedish national team took the lead with three points, while the Japanese and Dutch national teams each had one point after their draw in the same round.
