Liverpool, England – Liverpool Football Club has announced the completion of an agreement with FC Barcelona for the loan signing of Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo. Araujo will wear the Reds’ shirt during the 2026-2027 season.
Liverpool explained that Araujo’s transfer to their ranks is still contingent upon the completion of certain formalities. These include the player obtaining a work permit, as well as finalizing his registration and international clearance.
The Uruguayan defender is expected to wear the number 33 shirt for Liverpool next season. This comes after he ended his temporary spell at Barcelona and moved to the English Premier League for a new challenge.
Araujo arrives at Liverpool after several years with Barcelona, during which he made over 200 appearances across all competitions. He also established himself as one of the Catalan club’s key defenders.
The 27-year-old has won the Spanish league title three times with Barcelona since joining the team in 2018, most recently last season. He also captained the Catalan club earlier this year.
Araujo will be under the management of Andoni Iraola at Liverpool. The coaching staff hopes to utilize his defensive abilities and European experience to strengthen the squad before the start of the new season.
