Washington, USA – The first half of the match between the Egyptian national team and their Iranian counterparts, held at “Lumen Field” stadium in Seattle, USA, ended in a 1-1 draw, as part of the third and final round of Group G in the 2026 World Cup.
The Egyptian national team started the match strongly, with Mahmoud Saber scoring the opening goal for the Pharaohs in the fifth minute, after he took advantage of a quick attack to put the ball in the net, giving the Egyptian national team an early advantage in the match.
The Iranian team’s response was not long in coming, as Ramin Rezaeian managed to equalize in the 14th minute, bringing the match back to square one and igniting the competition between the two teams for the top spot in the group.
The first half witnessed great excitement and an exchange of attacks between the two sides, with a relative advantage for the Egyptian team at some times of the match, while the Iranian team relied on counter-attacks and quick long balls.
Egypt suffered a blow when defender Mohamed Abdelmonem was forced off with an injury, prompting coach Hossam Hassan to make a substitution, bringing on Yasser Ibrahim. Goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir also shone in the first half, saving an Iranian penalty and keeping the Pharaohs’ hopes alive.
