Brasilia, Brazil – The Brazilian Football Confederation announced that midfielder Ederson has joined the national team’s training camp in the United States, in preparation for the 2026 World Cup.
The Brazilian national team is preparing to participate in the tournament hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, where it will compete in Group C alongside the national teams of Morocco, Haiti and Scotland.
Ederson was called up to compensate for the absence of his teammate Wesley, who suffered an injury during the friendly match between the Brazilian national team and its Egyptian counterpart on June 6.
The Brazilian Football Confederation explained in an official statement that medical tests conducted on Wesley revealed that he suffered a muscle tear in the adductor muscle of his left thigh, which will prevent him from continuing his journey with the national team in the tournament.
The federation said in its statement: “Player Wesley underwent MRI scans under the supervision of the national team’s medical staff, and the results of the MRI confirmed that he suffered a muscle injury in the adductor muscle of his left thigh”.
The Brazilian Football Confederation added: “The Confederation of Brazilian Football expresses its regret for this injury and wishes the player a speedy recovery and a quick return to the field”.
The statement confirmed that Ederson will join the Seleção squad in New Jersey starting Monday, to bolster the midfield options ahead of the World Cup.
