London, England – Manchester City are close to securing the future of their star player Phil Foden, after reaching a preliminary agreement to extend the player’s contract for several more years.
According to Sky Sports, the English club’s management has successfully concluded negotiations with Foden. An agreement has been reached to extend his contract for an additional four years, despite his current contract running until the summer of 2027.
Foden, 25, is one of the most prominent graduates of Manchester City’s academy, having been promoted to the first team in 2017. Since then, he has become a key player in the “Sky Blues” squad.
The player receives a weekly salary estimated at around £225,000, placing him among the highest-paid players in the team.
In terms of performance, Foden has participated in 46 matches across all competitions this season, scoring 10 goals and providing 5 assists, thus confirming his influential role within the team.
This move by Manchester City’s management comes at a sensitive time, after the team’s position in the Premier League title race became more complicated following their thrilling 3-3 draw against Everton in matchday 35.
Arsenal are top of the table with 76 points from 35 games, five points ahead of Manchester City, who still have a game in hand.
