Washington, D.C. – Washington is preparing to host a historic event in the world of football on Friday, as the draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the largest edition of the global tournament ever, takes place. The draw will take place in the US capital amid expectations of a large turnout, including US President Donald Trump and senior FIFA officials, such as Gianni Infantino. The groups and official match schedule will be announced. The matches will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, the three host nations for the tournament.

A FIFA official stated that the draw aims to ensure a balanced distribution of top teams across the various groups. This will take into account continental qualification rules and historical performance in previous World Cup editions. He explained that this distribution seeks to maintain excitement throughout the group stage.

This edition of the tournament represents a new test for the sports infrastructure of the host countries. The stadiums will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to accommodate the large number of matches and fans. It will also offer unique opportunities for smaller national teams to showcase their skills against some of the world’s biggest clubs.

Among European teams, Italy, Spain, Germany, and France are considered favorites to go far in the tournament. Meanwhile, teams from other continents, such as Asia, Africa, and the Americas, are aiming to cause an upset and prove their ability to compete at the highest level.

Football fans are eagerly awaiting this draw, not only to see the matchups but also to anticipate any surprises in the “groups of death” or major upsets that could alter the course of the tournament before it officially begins.

With this historic edition, it becomes clear that the 2026 World Cup is not just a sporting event. It is a global event that transcends the boundaries of stadiums, uniting the world’s people through their love of football and its genuine excitement.
