Copenhagen, Denmark – Former Queen Margrethe II of Denmark was admitted to the hospital for the third time this year after suffering a health setback that required medical tests and treatment. The tests revealed a blood clot in her hip area, along with mild dehydration. The royal family confirmed that her condition is stable and that she is receiving the necessary medical care.
The former queen is expected to remain in the hospital for several days, possibly longer, for monitoring, necessary tests, and to ensure her response to treatment. This crisis follows a series of health problems Margrethe has experienced this year. Her third hospitalization has therefore garnered significant attention both within Denmark and internationally. Her health condition has forced her to cancel several engagements, at a time when the royal family is preparing to represent Denmark at the funeral of King Harald V of Norway in Oslo.
Margrethe II abdicated the throne in January 2024, after more than five decades as head of the Danish monarchy, handing the throne to her son, King Frederik X. Despite stepping back from official duties, the former queen remained present at a number of public events and royal functions. However, recurring health problems in recent years have led her to reduce her public activities and focus more on her medical care.
