Washington, DC – The US Vice President expressed his appreciation for Pope Leo XIV’s remarks warning of the rapidly evolving nature of artificial intelligence, emphasizing the importance of approaching this technology with extreme caution and establishing ethical and regulatory frameworks that keep pace with its speed and increasing impact on societies.

In comments reported by US media outlets, the Vice President stated that the Vatican’s position reflects a sophisticated understanding of the challenges AI poses to the job market, data privacy, and information security, as well as its potential impact on human values and social relations.

Pope Leo XIV recently warned that the rapid development of artificial intelligence technologies could outpace the capacity of current legislation to regulate and monitor them. He called for broad international cooperation to ensure that this technology is used in a way that serves humanity and does not threaten human dignity or replace it in an uncontrolled manner.

These statements come at a time of intensifying global competition among major powers in the field of artificial intelligence, with increasing investments in developing intelligent models and advanced applications. This is fueling a growing debate about the ethical and legal boundaries of using these technologies.

The US Congress is also witnessing ongoing debates about new legislation to regulate artificial intelligence, including standards for transparency, data protection, and preventing harmful uses, amid calls from technology experts for a balance between innovation and societal safeguards.

Amid this escalating debate, observers believe that the convergence of political and religious stances reflects a growing global concern about the future of artificial intelligence, transforming it from a mere technological tool into a strategic issue that simultaneously impacts security, values, and the economy.
