Mexico City – A new cyberattack targeting vital institutions in Mexico has ignited widespread international concern following reports that hackers exploited the advanced AI model “Claude,” developed by “Anthropic,” to execute complex digital operations. This incident marks a radical shift in the nature of cyber threats, where AI is no longer just a supportive tool but has become the “primary engine” for developing malware that is nearly impossible to detect using traditional methods.

According to technical sources, attackers relied on “Claude’s” analytical capabilities to accelerate code writing and develop hyper-realistic phishing messages. This method allowed hackers to bypass digital firewalls through AI-powered social engineering, granting the attack an execution speed and spread capability that previously required specialized programming teams and months of work.

Security and Ethical Challenges: Have We Lost Control Over Generative Models?

The attack highlighted the security gap in Large Language Models (LLMs), where hackers can manipulate inputs (Prompt Injection) to extract offensive code or analyze technical vulnerabilities. Although Anthropic asserts that it has placed strict limitations to prevent harmful use, the Mexico incident proved the possibility of misusing these technologies to develop hacking tools capable of surprising air defense, financial systems, and critical infrastructure.

Digital security experts believe that exploiting “Claude” in this attack places tech companies in an ethical dilemma. While these models are designed to enhance human productivity, they grant attackers unprecedented “programming power.” This development pushes for an urgent review of generative AI security protocols to prevent it from turning into a “digital laboratory” for producing cross-border viruses and malware.

The Future of Cyber Warfare: The Era of Fully Automated Attacks

Specialists warn that the Mexico incident is just the beginning of a new wave of AI-supported digital crimes. The world today stands on the threshold of “algorithmic wars,” where smart defense systems will face attacks managed entirely by models like “Claude” and “ChatGPT.” This reality requires governments and cybersecurity firms to accelerate the development of “defensive AI” capable of predicting and thwarting offensive model behavior in fractions of a second.

In conclusion, the incident remains a grave indicator that the next cyber threat will not be entirely human. As AI’s ability to produce sophisticated code increases, there is an urgent need for international legislation to impose strict controls on the developers of these models, ensuring that the “intelligence” created to serve humanity does not turn into a tool threatening its digital security and economic stability.
