Canberra, Australia – Australian authorities announced that social media platforms have suspended approximately 4.7 million accounts as part of a series of stricter regulatory measures implemented by the government following new restrictions and regulations governing the digital space.

Reports indicate that the suspended accounts included fake accounts and others found to have violated local laws or terms of service. Accounts linked to the dissemination of misleading or harmful content were also included, which authorities deemed a direct threat to user security and the safety of the digital community.

This move is part of a broader Australian effort to restructure social media platforms, requiring major technology companies to take greater responsibility for privacy protection, combating misinformation, and ensuring a safer digital environment, especially for children and teenagers.

The Australian government confirmed that oversight of these platforms will continue in the coming period. It also threatened further penalties and fines for companies that fail to comply with the new laws and regulations, emphasizing that user security is a non-negotiable priority.
