Ankara, Turkey – Turkey has warned of the risks of the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine spilling over into the Black Sea region, stressing that an escalation of the conflict in this sensitive area could negatively impact regional and international security. It could also threaten the stability of international navigation and trade.
Turkish officials confirmed that Ankara is closely monitoring military developments, emphasizing the need to avoid any steps that could escalate the confrontation or open a new front in the Black Sea. The Black Sea is a vital strategic waterway for the countries bordering it.
Turkey reiterated its call for prioritizing diplomatic solutions and resuming negotiations to end the war, asserting that the continuation of military operations exacerbates security and economic risks. These operations also disrupt global trade and the supply of food and energy.
Ankara, which maintains relations with both Moscow and Kyiv, seeks to continue its role in supporting mediation efforts and de-escalating tensions. It emphasized that maintaining Black Sea security is a shared priority for all countries in the region. Furthermore, any new escalation could have repercussions extending beyond the current conflict.
