  • Continued hostile approach despite international resolutions
  • Violating the “Islamabad Understanding” and undermining the chances of de-escalation
  • A call for a firm international stance and the activation of joint defense.

Manama, Bahrain – In a dangerous escalation that threatens the security and stability of the region, the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned Iran’s renewed and blatant aggression against its territory. This aggression involved the targeting of Bahrain again with a number of ballistic missiles and drones.

The Ministry stated that this act of aggression represents a dangerous escalation, clearly demonstrating that Tehran’s actions are not isolated incidents or random occurrences. Rather, they constitute a deliberate and systematic pattern of repeated aggression against the Kingdom’s sovereignty and the security of its citizens and residents.

Continued hostile approach despite international resolutions

Having previously condemned the Iranian aggression against its territory in its earlier statement, recalling Tehran’s breach of its commitments and the international will embodied in Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), the Kingdom’s repetition of this aggression today, Sunday, June 28, 2026, confirms that the Kingdom’s warnings have come to pass. It has become clear that the Iranian regime is persisting in its hostile approach, disregarding international condemnation and its own pledges.

The Ministry affirmed that this repeated aggression will not impose a fait accompli. Moreover, it will not diminish Bahrain’s resolve or the steadfastness of its people in defending their sovereignty.

Violating the “Islamabad Understanding” and undermining the chances of de-escalation

The ministry believes this repetition eliminates any pretext and proves premeditation. This aggression comes as a blatant recurrence of Tehran’s commitments under the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding” signed on June 17, 2016. This memorandum stipulated a permanent cessation of military operations and respect for the sovereignty of the region’s countries, thus placing sole responsibility on Tehran for breaking its promises and undermining what remains of the opportunities for de-escalation and stability in the region.

A call for a firm international stance and the activation of joint defense.

The Ministry emphasizes that Tehran’s continued defiance of international will necessitates a firm stance. It calls upon the UN Security Council to convene an urgent session and fulfill its responsibilities in ensuring the implementation of Resolution 2817 (2026). It also demands an end to this ongoing aggression and that its perpetrators be held accountable in a fair and legal manner. Furthermore, the Kingdom of Bahrain affirms that this repeated aggression is not directed against it alone. It constitutes a direct threat to the security of the entire Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) system, based on the established principle of the GCC Joint Defense Agreement. This principle stipulates that any attack on any member state is an attack on all. Accordingly, what threatens one threatens all.

While the Kingdom cherishes Gulf solidarity and shared security destiny, it affirms its full and legitimate right to defend its sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity in accordance with international law. It holds the Iranian regime fully responsible for any escalation resulting from its continued aggression. The Kingdom emphasizes that its security and stability are a red line that it will not allow any party to cross, regardless of the challenges and threats.
