Tehran, Iran – A US military official revealed on Tuesday that Tehran has exploited periods of calm and ceasefires to reopen and operate dozens of sites and facilities dedicated to the deployment and launch of ballistic and cruise missiles. These intensified Iranian activities come in anticipation of a possible resumption of full-scale military operations against it by the United States, following recent firm statements by President Donald Trump on the matter.
Moving launch platforms and new defensive tactics
The New York Times quoted the official as saying that US intelligence had detected Iranian forces moving large numbers of mobile missile launchers to new, alternative locations. This was in preparation for renewed armed conflict and direct confrontation in the region between Tehran and Washington.
The report explained that military assessments indicate Iran has restored operational capability at approximately 30 of the 33 missile sites along the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Furthermore, it has opened its deep underground facilities, dug beneath granite mountains, to protect its arsenal and missiles from any preemptive airstrikes.
Behind the scenes of postponing “Tuesday’s attack” at the request of the Gulf states
These rapid developments on the ground came just hours after US President Donald Trump announced the postponement of a large-scale military attack against Iran, which had been scheduled to begin on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the US president directed the Department of Defense (the Pentagon) to keep the armed forces fully prepared to launch a comprehensive and large-scale attack at any moment. This would occur if diplomatic efforts fail and a final, acceptable agreement with Tehran is not reached.
