Moscow, Russia – The Russian Defense Minister asserted that the efforts of some countries to bolster their military presence in Central Asia are unacceptable, warning that such moves could destabilize the region and create new tensions in an area of strategic importance to regional and international security.

The minister explained that Moscow is closely monitoring any attempts to establish military bases or expand foreign military influence near its borders. He emphasized that Russia considers the security of Central Asia an integral part of its national security and affirmed that it will not tolerate any potential threats.

He noted that the introduction of external powers into the region’s security equation could complicate the situation and increase the likelihood of escalation. This is especially true given existing challenges such as terrorism, drug trafficking, and instability in some neighboring countries.

The Russian Defense Minister called for strengthening regional cooperation mechanisms among Central Asian states. He urged working within existing frameworks such as the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). This, he argued, would ensure the region’s stability without the need for external intervention.

He also stressed the importance of adopting dialogue and joint coordination as a means of resolving disputes. He emphasized that militarizing the region would not serve the interests of its people, but rather could open the door to unforeseen conflicts.

Observers believe that the Russian statements reflect growing concern about international moves seeking to bolster their influence in Central Asia. This is occurring against the backdrop of escalating geopolitical competition among major powers and attempts to redraw the map of influence in vital regions around the world.
