  • Analysis: A mix of criticism and politics

Cairo, Egypt – Former US President Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on the United Nations during his speech before the General Assembly. He described the organization as “empty words that do not build peace.” He criticized its ineffectiveness in resolving international conflicts despite its tremendous capabilities. He added that the UN headquarters in New York is “a symbol of words without action.”

Trump said, “The United Nations has great capabilities, but it does not live up to the required standards. It does not solve wars or ensure world peace.”

“The Gilded Age of America”

Trump reviewed his economic and military achievements, emphasizing that the United States possesses the strongest military and the strongest economy, as well as the broadest network of international relations. He added, “The whole world is seeing money flowing into America, and we are building the greatest economy in history.” He pointed to the success of his policies in reducing illegal immigration to zero.

His position on Palestine and Hamas

Trump criticized the decisions of some countries to recognize the State of Palestine, considering them “a reward for Hamas’s atrocities.” His criticism included the October 7 attack. He called on the movement to release all detainees in Gaza at once. He emphasized that his efforts were aimed at ending conflicts and said he deserved the Nobel Peace Prize.

The war in Ukraine and a warning against continuing to fund Russia

Trump asserted that the continuation of the Russian war in Ukraine “tarnishes Russia’s image” and is costing the world enormous human and material losses. He called on Europe, China, and India to immediately stop purchasing Russian oil. He warned against continuing to financially support the war and prolonging it.

Analysis: A mix of criticism and politics

Trump’s speech reflected a mixture of direct criticism of the United Nations and international policies. He highlighted his past economic and military achievements and attempted to portray the United States as an undisputed global power. He also highlighted regional and international crises, including those concerning Palestine and Ukraine, in an attempt to link past US policies to conflict resolution and the protection of global security.
