Islamabad, Pakistan – Pakistan’s Justice Minister affirmed that any move to amend the constitution within the country will only proceed through broad domestic consensus among political forces and national institutions. He also stressed that the government is not seeking to impose unilateral changes that could exacerbate political divisions in the country.
In remarks carried by Pakistani media, the minister explained that the constitution represents the foundation of political and democratic stability. He emphasized that any amendment requires serious dialogue and participation from various political parties. In this way, the government ensures the preservation of the unity of the state and its constitutional institutions.
He noted that the government is aware of the sensitivity of the current phase Pakistan is going through, especially given the political and economic tensions. Therefore, it has made national consensus a fundamental necessity before making any crucial decisions regarding the constitutional system or the form of government.
The Pakistani political scene has recently witnessed ongoing debate regarding potential constitutional reforms. Disagreements between the government and the opposition have also emerged concerning the powers of certain institutions and the mechanisms for managing the political and electoral processes.
Observers believe that the Justice Minister’s statements reflect an attempt to allay domestic concerns and reaffirm the government’s commitment to the democratic path. This is becoming increasingly important given the continued political pressures and economic challenges facing the country at this time.
