Abu Dhabi, UAE – EDGE signed a framework agreement for defense industry cooperation with the Defense Acquisition Program Administration of the Republic of Korea, a move that strengthens the strategic defense partnership between the two countries. This took place during a high-level official visit by a South Korean delegation to Abu Dhabi.

The agreement was signed by Faisal Al Bannai, Advisor to the UAE President for Strategic Research and Advanced Technology and Chairman of EDGE, and Lee Young-chul, South Korea’s Minister of Defense Acquisition Program Administration, in the presence of several senior officials from both sides. This reflects the depth of the special strategic relationship between the UAE and South Korea.
A comprehensive framework for industrial cooperation
The agreement establishes a comprehensive framework for cooperation in design, development, capacity building, training, support, and maintenance. It moves beyond the traditional supply model to a long-term industrial partnership, focusing on knowledge transfer and fostering industrial integration between the two parties.
Advanced defense systems
The cooperation encompasses integrated air defense systems, advanced air capabilities, and naval power systems. This contributes to strengthening joint defense capabilities and supports technological and industrial development in both countries.
Huge defense investments
The agreement is estimated to bring the value of defense cooperation to approximately US$35 billion. This reflects a shared ambition to expand strategic cooperation and strengthen defense industrial partnerships between Abu Dhabi and Seoul. This aligns with both countries’ focus on fostering innovation and developing advanced industries.
