Rosh HaAyin, Israel – Elbit Systems, Israel’s largest defense company, announced Wednesday the launch of a new unit called “Fuse.” The unit aims to develop AI-based defense technologies, including autonomous drones and advanced military systems.
A unit specializing in artificial intelligence technologies
According to Reuters, the company said the new unit will consolidate several of its AI-based defense technologies under a single umbrella. This will unify its capabilities in autonomous systems and the development of advanced military applications.
The launch of “Fuse” comes as part of the company’s expansion into military systems capable of performing missions autonomously. This includes drone technologies and counter-drone systems.
Acquisition of a robotics company
Elbit had acquired the Israeli company Blue White Robotics last May. This move strengthened its capabilities in the field of robotic systems and autonomous technologies.
The company also unveiled the One2Mini system, which uses an AI-based operating system to coordinate swarms of autonomous aircraft. This reflects the growing reliance on artificial intelligence in managing military systems.
Contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars
Company officials said that the Fuse unit has already secured contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Among these contracts is one to supply the Thor anti-drone system to the US military through Mistral.
Officials added that the unit also secured a number of deals in Europe. This reflects the growing demand for AI-based defense technologies and autonomous systems.
These developments indicate Elbit’s intention to strengthen its presence in the new military technologies market. It is also focusing on integrating artificial intelligence into drones and defense systems.
