  • Targeting Russia’s “Shadow Fleet” with New Sanctions
  • European Coordination and Moscow’s Rejection

Paris, France – France has summoned the Russian chargé d’affaires in Paris to deliver a stern protest over what it characterized as a “hybrid attack” attributed to Russia, following an explosive-laden drone incident at Germany’s Leipzig airport in early August.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot announced that Paris views the development as a grave incident requiring a coordinated political and security response at both national and European levels. The move follows German accusations pointing to Russian involvement near a Ukrainian cargo aircraft on August 4.

Targeting Russia’s “Shadow Fleet” with New Sanctions

Barrot revealed that France will propose a new round of European Union sanctions specifically targeting vessels associated with Russia’s “shadow fleet.” Western nations accuse this fleet of utilizing opaque ownership structures and flags of convenience to transport energy and commodities while evading international sanctions.

The diplomatic summons and proposed measures coincide with broader EU discussions regarding countermeasures against alleged cyber operations, sabotage, and hybrid tactics targeting European infrastructure.

European Coordination and Moscow’s Rejection

Ultimately, European Union foreign ministers are expected to evaluate new enforcement steps to strengthen critical infrastructure security and tighten economic restrictions. Meanwhile, Moscow maintains its rejection of the Leipzig airport accusations, dismissing them as unfounded.
