Highlights
  • “Tiangong Ultra” Performance and High-Speed Control Challenges
  • China’s Robotics Investments and Future Technological Horizons

Beijing, China — The humanoid robot “Tiangong Ultra” achieved a landmark milestone by completing the 100-meter dash in 9.39 seconds, eclipsing the world record held by Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt. The historic run took place during qualification rounds at the World Humanoid Robot Games held in Beijing. Furthermore, the event underscores the extraordinary progress made in dynamic locomotion and robotics engineering.

“Tiangong Ultra” Performance and High-Speed Control Challenges

Developed by the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center, “Tiangong Ultra” surged ahead in the final stretch to defeat its primary competitor, “Lightning,” developed by Honor, which clocked 9.47 seconds. In addition, both robots successfully surpassed Bolt’s iconic 2009 record of 9.58 seconds. Consequently, the race highlighted major breakthroughs in high-speed mechanical propulsion and balance algorithms.

Meanwhile, the high-velocity sprint exposed ongoing control and stopping difficulties when both machines collided with padded barriers at the finish line. Therefore, “Tiangong Ultra” veered near spectator zones while “Lightning” fell and required technical assistance following the run. As a result, engineers are analyzing deceleration systems to refine stability during maximum velocity operations, despite massive improvements over last year’s 21.50-second mark.

China’s Robotics Investments and Future Technological Horizons

China continues to prioritize humanoid robotics as a core strategic industry, integrating artificial intelligence into manufacturing, logistics, and consumer markets. Consequently, this year’s games at the National Speed Skating Oval feature over 2,000 humanoid units competing across 51 diverse categories. At the same time, events range from athletics and soccer to precision industrial tasks.

Ultimately, the record-setting performance demonstrates how mechanical speed is rapidly approaching new frontiers. In conclusion, refining real-time sensor control and braking mechanisms remains the critical next step for next-generation humanoid platforms.
