Cairo, Egypt – Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy condemned the Israeli attack targeting Abu al-Duhur military airport in Syria. He considered the continued Israeli strikes inside Syrian territory a dangerous escalation that threatens the region’s security and stability. Fahmy affirmed his rejection of the military operations carried out by Israel within Syrian territory. He also stressed the need to respect Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of preventing Arab lands from becoming open arenas for military operations.
The Secretary-General of the Arab League warned that repeated Israeli attacks could widen the circle of tension in the Middle East, especially given the numerous conflict zones and military escalations in the region. This increases the likelihood of the situation spiraling into a broader confrontation. Fahmy pointed out that the continued attacks on Syria and other countries in the region exacerbate instability and undermine efforts to contain existing crises and halt the escalation. He also emphasized that military solutions cannot be a path to achieving lasting security and stability.
He called for serious international action to halt the escalation and prevent the recurrence of such operations. He also stressed the need for the international community and the Security Council to fulfill their responsibilities in protecting the sovereignty of states and preventing violations that could increase regional tension. He further emphasized the importance of intensifying diplomatic efforts to contain the rapidly evolving situation in the region. In addition, he affirmed the need to prevent the spillover of conflicts from one front to another, thereby preserving the security of populations and creating conditions conducive to political settlements of existing crises. This Arab condemnation comes at a time of heightened tensions in the region. There are also concerns that the continuation of Israeli military operations in Syria could open new avenues for escalation. This threatens regional stability and further complicates the political and security landscape in the Middle East.
