Madrid, Spain – Spanish authorities announced the recovery of the bodies of nine people who died in recent days while trying to reach the city of Ceuta, in a new incident highlighting the growing dangers faced by irregular migrants when crossing the sea border into Spanish territory.
Additional security reinforcements to the city of Ceuta
Authorities explained that search and rescue operations continued in the coastal areas surrounding Ceuta,
amid fears that other people might be missing. The bodies were transferred for identification and to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
Following the incident, the Spanish government decided to send additional security reinforcements to Ceuta to support the border guards.
This deployment aims to tighten coastal controls and address the significant increase in illegal migration attempts,
while also enhancing rescue capabilities and rapid response to maritime incidents.
Repeated attempts by migrants
The city of Ceuta witnesses frequent attempts by migrants to reach it by sea or by crossing the border fence, amid increasing pressures related to irregular migration, which prompts the Spanish authorities to intensify their security measures in coordination with the relevant authorities to reduce this phenomenon and protect lives.
