Islamabad, Pakistan – Pakistan and Iran are exploring a new diplomatic pathway to resume stalled negotiations with the United States, backed by intensified Chinese mediation efforts to curb a regional conflict stretching across nearly five months.

High-ranking Pakistani sources revealed that exploratory talks took place during Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni’s visit to Islamabad this week, marking his second visit within ten days as part of de-escalation moves.

The sources added that the Iranian minister, known to have close ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, held high-level meetings with government officials and Army Chief Asim Munir to discuss crisis developments and dialogue prospects with Washington.

Regional Pressures and Complex Alliances

Islamabad navigates a delicate diplomatic balancing act in its mediation role, maintaining strong financial and economic ties with Saudi Arabia while addressing regional security dynamics and maritime attacks.

Concurrently, Pakistani authorities maintain close coordination with Beijing, with Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar discussing the framework for reviving diplomatic channels during his recent visit to China.

Beijing’s Economic Stakes and Mediation Support

A Pakistani government official stated that China harbors deep concerns regarding the repercussions of Iranian-linked attacks on Gulf states and potential disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, which threaten global trade routes.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Foreign Ministry reaffirmed its steadfast support for Pakistan-led mediation efforts, emphasizing Beijing’s commitment to playing an active role in restoring Gulf stability and securing international commerce.
