Washington – U.S. President Donald Trump explicitly warned China and Russia against selling or transferring weapons to Iran, asserting that any military backing provided to Tehran would be “very bad” for both nations and counter to their strategic interests amid escalating regional tensions.

Explicit Warnings and Diplomatic Assurances

In a post shared on Truth Social, President Trump disclosed that he had secured firm personal commitments from both Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin pledging not to extend military hardware to Iran. Trump noted that during their recent summit in Beijing, Xi assured him that neither the Chinese government nor private Chinese entities would sell or supply armaments to Tehran.

Trump further stated that President Putin offered parallel commitments despite ongoing geopolitical friction involving Ukraine. He added that Washington currently views both major powers as refraining from direct military involvement, warning that altering this posture would trigger serious strategic consequences for Beijing and Moscow.

Strategic Context and Regional Escalation

Trump’s remarks arrive amidst heightened security reviews by U.S. intelligence regarding potential targeting support or logistical assistance provided to Iranian forces.

Analysts view Trump’s diplomatic signaling as a preemptive measure intended to prevent the escalation of regional conflict into a broader proxy confrontation among global superpowers, while maintaining open diplomatic channels with both China and Russia.

Trump’s warnings reflect Washington’s desire to impose a comprehensive arms embargo on Tehran and contain its military capabilities. They also aim to establish early red lines for major international powers to prevent regional tensions from escalating into a proxy war between them.
