Islamabad, Pakistan – Nine Pakistani police officers were killed and several others wounded in an armed attack targeting a security patrol in Balochistan province, southwestern Pakistan. This comes amid the latest wave of violence in the troubled region.

Pakistani authorities stated that gunmen ambushed a security force during a field operation. They then opened heavy fire on the officers, resulting in numerous casualties. Security forces and ambulance crews immediately rushed to the scene to evacuate the victims and establish a security cordon around the area.

Security forces launched a large-scale search operation to track down the perpetrators of the attack. This came amidst heavy military reinforcements and a security deployment around the site of the incident, in an effort to prevent the attackers’ escape and ensure stability.

Pakistani officials condemned the attack, emphasizing that such acts would not deter the state from continuing its efforts to combat terrorism and extremism. They also affirmed the ongoing pursuit of armed groups operating in some border areas. Attacks targeting security forces and government facilities occur periodically, particularly in Balochistan province.

Balochistan is Pakistan’s largest province by area and its most volatile in terms of security. Armed groups and extremist organizations are active there. These groups carry out frequent attacks against security forces, prompting authorities to intensify their military operations to enhance security and stability in the region.
