  • Continued security cooperation

Rabat, Morocco – Morocco’s Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations announced it had targeted a cell linked to ISIS operating in the Sahel region of Africa.

This comes as part of security operations aimed at combating extremist organizations and strengthening regional security.

A security operation to counter terrorist threats

The office explained that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to monitor and dismantle networks

linked to terrorist organizations, particularly those operating in the Sahel region.

The Sahel has witnessed an escalation in the activities of extremist groups in recent years.

Morocco authorities confirmed that the operation falls within

a proactive strategy based on intelligence gathering and security coordination.

This strategy aims to counter terrorist threats before any plots targeting the security of the Kingdom or the region are carried out.

Connection to the Sahel region of Africa

The Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations in Morocco indicated

that the targeted cell was linked to ISIS in the Sahel region of Africa.

This region is considered a hotbed of activity for several extremist groups,

which exploit the complex security situation and vast geographical area.

Morocco security services continue to monitor movements linked to transnational terrorist organizations.

This is also being done in light of the growing security risks in some Sahel countries and their impact on regional security.

Continued security cooperation

This operation underscores Morocco continued commitment to strengthening its security

and intelligence cooperation with its regional and international partners to combat terrorism and extremism.

This is achieved through the exchange of information and expertise,

and the execution of proactive operations targeting cells linked to terrorist organizations.

The Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) is one of Morocco leading security agencies specializing in counterterrorism.

Over the past years, the BCIJ has successfully dismantled numerous

extremist cells and thwarted terrorist plots before they could be carried out.
