Beirut, Lebanon – Lebanese Minister of Diaspora Kamal Shehadeh confirmed that the Lebanese government is continuing to implement its obligations related to the framework agreement with Israel.
He also stressed that the diplomatic option remains the only way to stop the war.
At the same time, the state continues the path of restricting weapons to the Lebanese army.
It also works to complete efforts aimed at extending state sovereignty over its entire territory.
There is no alternative to a diplomatic solution
The Lebanese Minister of the Diaspora told Sky News Arabia that Lebanon has
no option but to pursue a diplomatic path to end the conflict with Israel.
He emphasized that continued political and diplomatic contacts represent
the most realistic way to prevent further escalation in the country.
Therefore, it is essential for maintaining internal stability given the security and economic circumstances Lebanon is facing.
He added that the government is focused on supporting efforts to solidify the ceasefire.
This will create the necessary conditions for addressing outstanding issues through political channels, avoiding any military escalation.
Confining weapons to the army
The Lebanese Minister of the Diaspora indicated that the Lebanese government
will continue implementing its plan to restrict weapons to the Lebanese army.
He also affirmed that this approach is part of strengthening state authority
and consolidating its security and military institutions.
This will ensure the enforcement of the law, protect internal stability,
and enhance the state’s ability to fulfill its security responsibilities.
He explained that this approach is part of the government’s vision to rebuild trust in official institutions.
Furthermore, it reinforces state sovereignty over all its territory.
Framework Agreement Assessment
The Lebanese Minister of the Displaced stated that the framework agreement
with Israel is not significantly different from the “mechanism” previously in place.
However, he considered it more of an evolution of existing mechanisms than an entirely new agreement.
He added that Israel still occupies between 7 and 10 percent of Lebanese territory.
He emphasized that ending this occupation and completing the Israeli
withdrawal remains a fundamental objective for the Lebanese state.
This is to be pursued in parallel with continued political and diplomatic efforts.
The goal is to ensure the implementation of the understandings and achieve lasting stability on the southern border.
