Abu Dhabi, UAE – The United Arab Emirates has expressed its deep concern over the continuing military escalation between the conflicting parties in several Sudanese regions, notably Al-Obeid.
The UAE affirmed its categorical rejection of targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure, calling for the provision of safe corridors to evacuate civilians and ensure their full protection.
Call for an Immediate Ceasefire
According to news agencies, the UAE stressed that the urgent priority is to reach an immediate humanitarian truce and a permanent ceasefire in Sudan.
It explained that this halt ensures civilian protection and allows humanitarian aid to reach all affected areas safely and without obstacles, amid deteriorating conditions.
The state affirmed that ending hostilities is the main entry point to alleviate the population’s suffering and create conditions for a comprehensive political process.
Support for International and Regional Efforts
The UAE renewed its support for the efforts of the international “Quad” aimed at achieving sustainable peace in Sudan, contributing to an immediate, unconditional ceasefire.
It pointed out that these efforts pave the way for a comprehensive civilian-led political process, praising regional and international efforts, including the Berlin Conference outcomes.
The UAE confirmed its full support for all initiatives and appeals aimed at ending the war, launching an inclusive political process, and protecting civilians.
Emphasis on a Political Solution
The UAE welcomed the efforts of the Quintet Mechanism to support the political track and the consultations hosted in Addis Ababa regarding the preparatory committee for dialogue.
In the conclusion of its statement, the UAE affirmed that a comprehensive political solution, based on an independent civilian transition, is the only way to end the crisis.
It stressed the importance of supporting the Sudanese people’s aspirations for security, stability, and a dignified life, prioritizing dialogue over the military option.
