Gaza, Palestine – The Vice-Chair of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child has issued urgent warnings regarding the deteriorating humanitarian situation for children in the Gaza Strip. The UN official emphasized that the region is witnessing an accelerating decline that places children in exceptional circumstances, threatening the future of an entire generation as the ongoing crisis casts a dark shadow over every aspect of their daily lives.
Acute Shortage of Essentials and Deep Psychological Suffering
The official explained that children in Gaza are facing a bitter reality characterized by acute shortages of basic needs, ranging from food and clean water to healthcare and education. He noted that this deprivation is not limited to material aspects but extends to deep psychological burdens resulting from the ongoing conflict—a long-term challenge that will haunt these children for many years to come.
UN reports from the field indicate that thousands of children are at risk of malnutrition and infectious diseases, in addition to the trauma resulting from repeated displacement and the loss of their loved ones. These social and psychological burdens place children in direct confrontation with dangers that threaten their physical safety and mental development.
UN Calls to Protect Humanitarian Priorities
In this context, the Vice-Chair of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child issued an urgent appeal to the international community to intensify efforts, provide the necessary protection for children, and ensure the safe and sustainable flow of humanitarian aid to all parts of the Gaza Strip. He stressed that children’s rights remain an “absolute priority” that cannot be bypassed or overlooked under any circumstances.
The UN official warned that the continued deterioration will have dire, long-term consequences for social development in Gaza. He called for immediate and effective international action to alleviate the suffering of civilians, emphasizing that children are the most vulnerable group paying the highest and most devastating price in this ongoing crisis.
