Washington, USA – The U.S. Department of State confirmed that Secretary Marco Rubio emphasized Washington’s full support for the Lebanese government’s efforts to strengthen state sovereignty and build institutions capable of enforcing stability and security, ensuring Lebanon lives in peace with all neighboring countries.
U.S. Support for the Lebanese Government
The U.S. State Department explained that Secretary Rubio, during his contacts with the Lebanese side, reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to supporting the government in its efforts to enhance state authority and back political and security reform paths aimed at consolidating internal stability.
Position on Hezbollah’s Weapons
In the context of strengthening sovereignty, the U.S. Secretary stressed the necessity of disarming Hezbollah. Washington considers this a fundamental step toward restoring the Lebanese state’s control over all its territories and enhancing its ability to enforce the law and protect its sovereignty from any interference.
Restoring State Authority and Unifying Institutions
The State Department indicated that achieving lasting stability in Lebanon requires unifying security and military institutions exclusively under the authority of the Lebanese state. It confirmed that this approach aims to end any armed influence outside the framework of official legitimacy, ensuring that all weaponry is under the central state’s decision-making.
U.S. Vision for Regional Security
Washington emphasized that its support for Lebanon is part of a broader strategic vision aimed at enhancing regional security and supporting nations seeking to solidify their sovereignty. It noted that a stable Lebanon is a vital and influential element in the overall stability equation of the Middle East.
