Evian, France – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that G7 leaders agreed during their summit in France that Russia is not winning its war against Ukraine.
He added that discussions focused on tightening sanctions and bringing Moscow to the negotiating table.
New sanctions under discussion
Zelensky explained in an interview with Reuters that the leaders discussed imposing further sanctions on Russian energy exports.
In addition, they discussed targeting the Russian banking system and military sector
as part of an effort to increase economic and political pressure on Moscow.
Assessment of the situation on the battlefield
Ukrainian President Zelensky added that the G7 leaders discussed the developments in the fighting.
They also addressed the possibility of opening a negotiating track with Russia.
They also assessed the impact of the war on the Russian economy, with Zelensky emphasizing
that there was a consensus that Moscow was “losing many personnel and lacking the initiative.”
Calls to increase international pressure
Zelensky indicated that Ukraine would continue its long-range military operations against Russian infrastructure.
He added that he had called for increased political pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin to force him to reach a peace agreement.
He also expressed his belief that US President Donald Trump could play a pivotal role in advancing the settlement process.
