Tripoli, Libya – The Emergency Medicine and Support Center in Libya announced the implementation of a large humanitarian operation to recover and bury the bodies of
a number of illegal immigrants who died by drowning in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea.
The waves threw them towards the Libyan shores during the past hours.
Details of field operations
The center stated in an official statement published on its Facebook page
that its field teams affiliated with the Al-Khoms city office recovered and buried 15 bodies.
This was done after it was found dumped on the beaches of the city of Al-Khoms and the “Qarabulli” area.
This step comes within the framework of the ongoing humanitarian missions undertaken
by the Center to deal with the repercussions of illegal immigration.
This is done in full coordination with the relevant authorities and competent authorities.
This aims to ensure that these works are carried out in accordance with applicable legal and humanitarian procedures and controls.
In a related development, the center’s teams in Libya carried out another recovery operation.
They recovered three more bodies of undocumented migrants that had washed ashore on the Qarabulli beach.
The center explained that this operation was in response to an urgent report of bodies on the beach.
The specialized team went to the location, handled the situation,
and handed the bodies over to the relevant authorities for the necessary legal procedures.
Burials were then carried out according to proper protocol.
humanitarian commitment
These efforts come at a time when the beaches in Libya are witnessing an increase in
incidents of sinking migrant boats trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea towards the European coasts.
In this context, the Emergency Medicine and Support Center plays a pivotal role in dealing
with these human tragedies and ensuring the burial of the victims with dignity.
This is done in light of the major field challenges facing relief and recovery teams in coastal areas.
The Emergency Medicine and Support Center confirms that it will continue to perform its humanitarian and field duty.
He also expressed his full readiness to deal with any reports received regarding the presence of victims.
This will be in close coordination with various local and security authorities.
The goal is to ensure professional handling of such cases and to preserve the sanctity of the dead.
