Erbil, Iraq – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said that the US and Iran are “closer than ever” to reaching an agreement aimed at ending the war in the Middle East.
This comes amid growing signs of political rapprochement through regional mediation efforts, spearheaded by Pakistan.
Referring to the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding”
Araqchi wrote on the X platform that what he called the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding” was nearing completion.
He was referring to the Pakistani capital’s role in hosting and coordinating mediation efforts between the two sides,
without revealing details of the proposed terms or the nature of the final understandings.
Regional mediation and a complex negotiation process
Pakistan plays a pivotal role in facilitating indirect communication between Washington and Tehran.
Meanwhile, numerous diplomatic channels exist, intertwined with complex security and economic issues.
This comes amidst efforts to de-escalate tensions and pave the way for a comprehensive agreement.
Call to stop media leaks
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi urged the media to refrain from speculating
about the content of the agreement, stressing that full details would be announced in due course.
Meanwhile, international expectations are growing that an understanding is imminent,
despite the continued points of contention between the two sides.
