Amman, Jordan – The General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces – Arab Army announced today, Thursday, June 11, 2026, that its air defense systems and the Royal Jordanian Air Force successfully intercepted and shot down 20 missiles launched from Iran toward Jordanian territory. This operation comes amid escalating security tensions in the region. Jordan reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to protecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

A responsible military source at the General Command of the Armed Forces stated that the interception operation took place at dawn on Thursday. The Iranian missiles targeted the Azraq area in the Zarqa Governorate. The source confirmed that the missiles were dealt with decisively, preventing them from reaching their targets within the Kingdom. He emphasized that the interception operation resulted in no casualties or significant material damage to residential areas or vital infrastructure.

Engineering teams are dealing with the debris and securing the sites.

The military source explained that the missile fragments falling in uninhabited areas was a natural consequence of the interception operation. Immediately after the incident, specialized engineering teams from the armed forces were deployed to handle the debris. These teams conducted a thorough field survey of the sites to ensure they were clear of any explosive materials or potential hazards that could threaten public safety. The source also confirmed that security operations at the targeted locations had concluded and that the areas were now fully secured.

Jordan: High readiness to protect national sovereignty

In its statement regarding the event, the Jordanian Armed Forces affirmed that it is closely monitoring current regional developments. The official source emphasized that the Jordanian Armed Forces are operating at the highest levels of readiness and vigilance to defend the Kingdom’s airspace and borders.

The leadership also sent a clear message that Jordan will not allow any party to violate its airspace or exploit its territory in regional conflicts. It affirmed that protecting the security of citizens and the stability of the nation remains the top priority of the armed forces, which stand ready to confront any threat to national sovereignty. Meanwhile, security and monitoring agencies continue their operations to ensure stability in all governorates of the Kingdom.
