Beirut, Lebanon – The Lebanese president affirmed that addressing the issue of Hezbollah’s weapons requires a comprehensive political, military, economic, and social approach.
This is essential to ensure the preservation of political, security, and social stability in the country.
He also emphasized the importance of addressing the issue within
a holistic vision that takes into account the internal circumstances and existing challenges.
A comprehensive approach to the arms issue
The Lebanese president explained that the issue of disarmament cannot be addressed solely from a security perspective.
Rather, it requires a balanced approach encompassing political, military, economic,
and social dimensions. This aims to safeguard stability and prevent any repercussions that could affect civil peace in the country.
He noted that the Lebanese state is working to address sensitive national issues.
This is being done in a way that ensures the strengthening of state institutions
and the consolidation of their authority over all Lebanese territory.
The Lebanese president emphasized that an Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory would enable the state to fully extend its authority.
It would also contribute to ending all armed groups operating outside the framework of legitimate institutions.
He added that the completion of the Israeli withdrawal would remove
any justification for the continued presence of weapons outside the state’s control.
Furthermore, it would strengthen the role of official institutions and legitimate armed forces
as the entities authorized to protect the country and maintain its security.
Call for greater European support
The Lebanese president affirmed that his country always looks forward to tangible support from the European Union,
particularly in areas related to supporting the Lebanese army and security institutions and enhancing their capabilities.
He also noted the importance of European support for the Lebanese economy in light of the financial and economic challenges facing the country.
He emphasized that supporting official institutions is a fundamental element in efforts to achieve stability.
The Lebanese president’s remarks come at a time when discussions continue regarding
the future of weapons outside the control of the state and mechanisms for strengthening the authority of legitimate institutions.
This is taking place in parallel with efforts aimed at supporting political, security, and economic stability.
Lebanese officials emphasize that strengthening the role of the state and its security and military institutions,
alongside addressing the economic and social crises, is a fundamental pillar
for maintaining stability and consolidating state sovereignty over all its territory.
