Beirut, Lebanon – The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that 13 staff members of a hospital were injured in an Israeli airstrike that targeted the vicinity of the medical facility in the southern Lebanese city of Tyre.
In a statement, the ministry explained that the airstrike occurred near the hospital, resulting in injuries to several medical and administrative staff members.
The injured were transferred to receive necessary treatment and care.
Targeting the perimeter of a health facility
The ministry confirmed that the bombing targeted the area surrounding the hospital in Tyre,
causing damage and panic among patients and staff inside the medical facility.
It added that medical and ambulance teams responded immediately to the incident.
They then began treating the injured and assessing the damage caused by the airstrike.
The ministry noted that the continued Israeli airstrikes in the vicinity of health facilities exacerbate the pressure
on the medical sector and affect the hospitals’ ability to provide medical services to citizens.
Tensions escalate in southern Lebanon
She noted that medical teams continue to perform their duties despite the security challenges and difficult field conditions in southern Lebanon.
The Israeli airstrike comes amid ongoing military escalation on the Lebanese-Israeli front,
with several areas in the south witnessing exchanges of fire and continuous military movements.
The targeting of areas near civilian and medical facilities raises growing concerns about a worsening humanitarian situation,
at a time when international calls continue for de-escalation and the protection of civilians
and vital infrastructure in accordance with international humanitarian law.
