Tehran, Iran – Iran’s chief negotiator, Mohammad Qalibaf, affirmed that Tehran will not take any steps in the negotiations until the other side takes practical measures.
He was referring to the ongoing talks with the United States regarding the contentious issues between the two countries.
Qalibaf stated, in remarks carried by Iranian media, that his country is adhering to its negotiating positions.
He also emphasized that it will not take any unilateral actions unless
the other parties demonstrate a clear and serious commitment to fulfilling their obligations.
Iran adheres to its negotiating conditions
The Iranian official explained that his country is closely monitoring the other side’s behavior.
He emphasized that any progress in the negotiations requires reciprocal steps.
These steps must be based on mutual respect and practical commitment to any potential agreements.
He added that Tehran will not compromise on its rights or national interests.
He also stressed that past experiences have led Iran to adopt a more cautious approach in international negotiations.
Qalibaf remarks come at a time of increasing reports regarding the possibility of
reaching understandings between Iran and the United States to reduce tensions.
There are also reports about the resumption of negotiations in the near future.
Tense regional atmosphere
Iranian media had previously denied that a final draft of any memorandum of understanding with Washington had been reached.
They emphasized that consultations were still ongoing and that no agreement had yet been fully finalized.
These developments coincide with escalating regional and international tensions related to the Iranian issue.
They also come amidst diplomatic efforts led by several regional and international
actors to contain the escalation and push the parties toward de-escalation.
Western and regional capitals are closely monitoring the ongoing negotiations,
hoping for understandings that will contribute to reducing political and security tensions in the region.
