Amman, Jordan – The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the attempted desecration of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, after Israeli extremists tried to introduce sacrifices into one of the mosque’s courtyards, a move Amman described as a dangerous provocation and a violation of the existing historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem.
Rejection of Altering the Status Quo and Warnings Against Fueling Tensions
The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Holy Haram al-Sharif is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims, and that any attempts to change the status quo there are completely rejected and condemned. It stressed the need to respect the sanctity of the mosque and stop all measures aimed at imposing new realities in its courtyards.
The Ministry pointed out that the continuation of incursions and provocations carried out by Israeli extremists under the protection of Israeli forces constitutes a dangerous escalation that would fuel tension in Jerusalem and the region, warning that these practices undermine chances for calm and increase religious and political congestion.
Call for Urgent International Action and Reaffirmation of the Hashemite Custodianship
Amman called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities to stop the repeated violations against Al-Aqsa Mosque, emphasizing that the protection of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem represents an international commitment that cannot be compromised.
Jordan reaffirmed its role in caring for Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, as a historical custodianship aimed at protecting the status quo and ensuring that the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque is not violated, warning of the repercussions of continued attacks on the stability of the entire region.
