La Paz, Bolivia – Following a wave of protests sweeping the country, the Bolivian president announced a series of political and economic measures aimed at calming public anger and containing the rising tide of discontent. These measures come amid a crisis related to soaring prices and deteriorating living conditions.
The president confirmed that he will conduct a broad cabinet reshuffle, including restructuring some government portfolios. This move aims to improve government efficiency and enhance responsiveness to citizens’ demands. He also stressed that the current situation requires “a government that is closer to the people.”
He also announced a move towards broadening participation in decision-making by involving representatives from various social and economic groups. These groups include, in particular, workers, farmers, and indigenous peoples, through the establishment of a permanent dialogue framework. This framework aims to discuss public policies and address crises in a participatory manner.
In the same vein, the president called for dialogue with the protesters, but stipulated a clear condition: adherence to peaceful means and respect for the democratic system. He also emphasized his refusal to engage with any parties seeking violence or destabilization.
These steps come at a time when Bolivia is experiencing sporadic protests. Some of these protests have escalated into clashes with security forces in certain areas, fueled by growing social and economic demands. Among these demands are improved living standards and price controls on basic commodities.
