Baghdad, Iraq – The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the drone attack targeting the vicinity of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates. The attack resulted in a fire in one of the power generators outside the plant’s internal perimeter. However, no injuries or impact on radiation safety levels were reported.
Condemnation of the attack and reaffirmation of the rejection of escalation
The ministry affirmed that this attack represents a dangerous and unacceptable escalation, and a clear violation of the sovereignty of the United Arab Emirates and the rules of international law. It further clarified that Iraq strongly rejects any actions that threaten the security of vital installations or undermine the stability of the region.
Iraqi solidarity with the UAE
The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated Iraq’s full solidarity with the United Arab Emirates. It also affirmed its support for all measures aimed at protecting the UAE’s sovereignty, security, and stability. Furthermore, it expressed a firm stance calling for restraint and the avoidance of escalation amidst rising regional tensions.
A call to protect regional stability
The Iraqi Foreign Ministry also called for increased diplomatic efforts and dialogue to prevent further escalation of tensions in the region. It warned of the repercussions of continued attacks on energy security, international navigation, and regional stability in general.
