Beirut, Lebanon – Hezbollah Deputy Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem affirmed that Lebanon is facing an “Israeli enemy with expansionist ambitions.” He also stressed that the current challenges necessitate greater internal cohesion and preparedness to confront any developments the region may witness in the coming period.
In statements carried by Lebanese media outlets, Qassem said that Israel seeks to impose new realities in the region through military escalation and political pressure. He asserted that what is happening in the region reflects an “expansionist project” targeting several countries, not just Lebanon.
He added that the resistance – as he described it – is closely monitoring regional developments. He also affirmed that Lebanon will not stand idly by in the face of any threats to its sovereignty or security, given the ongoing tensions on its southern border and the growing fears of wider confrontations.
Qassem pointed out that the current regional situation necessitates a unified stance to confront the challenges. He also called for strengthening internal solidarity in Lebanon, especially in light of the continuing economic and political crises plaguing the country.
These statements come at a time of escalating tension in the region, coinciding with ongoing military operations and political wrangling related to the situation in the Middle East. They also come amidst international warnings of a potential widening of the conflict.
Observers believe that the recent statements by Hezbollah leaders reflect growing Lebanese anxiety about developments in the regional landscape. This anxiety is particularly heightened by the continued Israeli military activity and security tensions on several fronts in the region.
