Tehran, Iran – The spokesman for the Iranian parliament’s National Security Committee affirmed that the uranium enrichment file is “non-negotiable.” This stance reflects Tehran’s determination to continue its nuclear program despite mounting international pressure.
The spokesman explained that Iran considers uranium enrichment activities a “sovereign right that is not open to compromise.” He also indicated that any external attempts to impose restrictions on this file are “categorically rejected.”
Hold on to the nuclear program
He noted that the Iranian parliament supports the continuation of the nuclear program within the framework that Tehran considers peaceful. He emphasized that his country will not submit to any conditions that infringe upon its nuclear capabilities or its right to develop related technologies.
He added that Iran’s positions are in response to what Tehran describes as “unjust Western pressure.” He also affirmed that Iran’s response will be “firm and clear” to any attempts to restrict this right.
This statement comes amidst ongoing tensions between Iran and Western countries regarding the nuclear issue. Disagreements persist concerning enrichment levels and international monitoring mechanisms. Furthermore, diplomatic efforts to revive the nuclear agreement have stalled.
Hardline political messages
International parties fear that continued disagreements could lead to further escalation. At the same time, calls are growing for a return to the negotiating table and for avoiding a slide into a wider confrontation.
Observers believe that Iranian statements reflect a more hardline stance on the enrichment issue. This comes especially as sanctions and economic pressure continue, complicating the chances of reaching a settlement soon.
For its part, Tehran insists that its nuclear program will continue within what it considers its legitimate rights, in accordance with the international agreements it has previously signed.
