Gaza, Palestine – Hamas affirmed its full commitment to the Sharm el-Sheikh agreement recently reached to end the war on the Gaza Strip. The movement stressed that the agreement represents a significant step towards a ceasefire and paves the way for a comprehensive truce after months of military escalation.
Hamas stated that its commitment to the agreement is contingent upon the full implementation of all its provisions, foremost among them the cessation of military operations. This includes allowing sufficient humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip and working to solidify the ceasefire on the ground.
The movement indicated that the agreement was the result of intensive regional and international mediation efforts, most notably those held in Sharm El-Sheikh. It also stated that its success requires a mutual commitment from all parties to ensure a return to escalation.
Meanwhile, Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are awaiting the other side’s adherence to the agreement’s terms, hoping it will contribute to alleviating the severe humanitarian crisis the Strip has been experiencing since the outbreak of war. This crisis is exacerbated by deteriorating living conditions and a shortage of basic services.
The Sharm El-Sheikh agreement is seen as a new test of the prospects for de-escalation, given the complexities of the military and political landscape. Furthermore, international pressure continues to mount to end the war and open a more stable political process in the coming phase.
