Cairo, Egypt – The League of Arab States affirmed its full support for Palestinian media in light of the serious challenges faced by journalists covering events in the Palestinian territories, stressing the importance of providing necessary protection for media professionals and ensuring their ability to perform their professional duties freely and safely.
In an official statement, the Arab League clarified that targeting journalists or restricting the work of media institutions constitutes a clear violation of international laws and conventions that guarantee freedom of opinion and expression. These conventions also affirm the right of peoples to access information.
The Arab League called on the international community, human rights organizations, and media outlets to take urgent action to protect Palestinian journalists and work to stop the violations they face while performing their professional duties. The League emphasized that the media plays a pivotal role in conveying the reality of humanitarian and humanitarian situations in conflict zones.
The Arab League stressed the need to respect international humanitarian law and provide a safe environment for media workers. It also affirmed that protecting journalists is an international responsibility that cannot be ignored, especially in light of escalating tensions and rapidly unfolding events on the ground.
