Berlin, Germany – German police launched a large-scale security operation in the southwestern town of Sinsig following reports of a hostage situation inside a bank during an attempted armed robbery.
The town saw a heavy deployment of special forces and a security helicopter circling overhead.
German media reported that the incident began Friday morning when
an armored cash-in-transit van arrived at a bank branch in the town center.
The situation then rapidly escalated into a hostage situation inside the building.
As a result, authorities called in a large-scale security intervention.
The armored vehicle driver is among the hostages.
German authorities confirmed that several suspects and a number of hostages remained inside the bank.
They indicated that the driver of the armored cash transport vehicle was among those being held inside the building.
Police have not yet disclosed the number of hostages or the identities of the attackers.
They explained that withholding certain details was necessary to protect the ongoing security operation and ensure the safety of those being held.
Widespread security deployment
The German newspaper Bild reported that special police units were deployed around the bank shortly after the report was received.
A police helicopter was also seen circling the town center to monitor the situation and support the forces on the ground.
Authorities established a wide security perimeter around the area.
Furthermore, several roads leading to the scene were closed,
and residents were urged to stay away from the area and not obstruct security operations.

German police confirmed that there is no immediate danger to residents outside the immediate vicinity of the security operation.
