Kuwait – The Kuwait National Seismic Network, affiliated with the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, recorded an earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. The tremor was felt by residents in various parts of the country, prompting questions about the nature of local seismic activity.
Details and location of the earthquake
The Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) reported in an official press release that an earthquake occurred at 1:27 PM Kuwait time. Its epicenter was located in the Al-Manaqish area in the southwest of the country.
The statement also explained that the network’s precise monitoring equipment determined the earthquake’s depth to be approximately 5 kilometers underground. This is considered a relatively shallow depth, which explains why residents felt the tremor despite its moderate intensity.
Field situation and reassurance
According to initial reports, the earthquake did not result in any injuries or significant damage to vital infrastructure or residential buildings. Geologists confirmed that such mild to moderate tremors occur from time to time in the region as a result of natural tectonic activity. Therefore, there is no cause for alarm or the need for any unusual or extraordinary measures.
The National Seismic Monitoring Network continues to monitor seismic activity in the region around the clock to ensure the detection of any potential aftershocks and to provide accurate data to relevant authorities.
The Institute urges citizens and residents to obtain information from official sources. It also advises against spreading rumors that could cause unnecessary panic.
