Cairo, Egypt – His Eminence Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, strongly condemned the Iranian attacks targeting the United Arab Emirates.
He also affirmed his categorical rejection of all forms of violence targeting civilians and vital and economic infrastructure.
Furthermore, he stressed the necessity of respecting the sovereignty of nations and not jeopardizing their security and stability.
Religious and legal rejection of targeting civilians
Al-Azhar, in an official statement, affirmed that targeting civilian
and economic facilities constitutes a form of aggression forbidden by Islamic law.
It also deemed it a clear violation of the principles of international law and a direct threat to the security and stability of nations.
Al-Azhar warned of the repercussions of the continuation of such attacks on the security of the region.
Al-Azhar called for an immediate cessation of the attacks and an end to the intimidation of civilians.
Furthermore, it stressed the importance of respecting the principles of good neighborliness between states and adhering to the ceasefire.
This would contribute to reducing the escalating tensions in the region.
Dialogue is the only way to resolve conflicts
The statement emphasized that resorting to the negotiating table remains the only way to resolve regional and international conflicts.
It also called for prioritizing wisdom and reason, and for fostering dialogue and understanding.
This contributes to preserving the region’s security and spares its people further escalation and suffering.
Al-Azhar concluded its statement by stressing the need to thwart attempts to ignite strife and conflict.
It also called for working towards consolidating stability and peace in the region and the world.
